Fire Protective & Intumescent Coatings

Category : Drain Maintenance

Essential protection for your most important investments
Naturally, you’ve already invested in a fire protection system for your industrial facility. Smoke detectors, fire alarms and extinguishers, and a rapid response emergency plan for evacuation are (or should be) high on your list. Intumescent coatings offer another layer of protection that can be added to your system in the event that disaster strikes.
At Raider Painting, we have extensive experience working with fire protective coatings in commercial and industrial settings. It’s essential that these coatings are applied properly, and in the right places, in order to achieve maximum effectiveness. We’ll ensure that your added protection works when you need it.
What are intumescent coatings?
Fire protective coatings, also called intumescent, are unique in their ability to combat fire. These specialized coatings become more voluminous and less dense when exposed to high temperatures, forming a layer of charring that doesn’t conduct heat. In this way, they prevent the spread of fire while protecting the structure beneath the coating.
Some intumescent coatings also contain components like graphite, hydrates, and sodium silicates, which release water vapor when heated and produce a rapid cooling effect that strengthens the char.
Structures that usually require fire protective coatings include underground facilities, parking garages, and second-story or higher buildings. In any case, proper surface preparation and precise application are required for these coatings to be effective. Specific manufacturer-designated primers must be used, and multiple coatings are necessary to achieve the correct fire rating.
